Dream retreat? Casa de Carmona is an elegant hotel in the historic town of Carmona. It was a incredibly
quiet, and only 20 minute drive from Seville.
Staying in? The hotel was once a palace dating back to Renaissance times, and has 30 beautifully
restored rooms. Each one is different -rooms seven and 10 both have four-poster beds, while room 19 has a
tiled bath big enough to swim in. Yet, despite its grandeur, the atmosphere is very laid-back. I loved its
gourmet restaurant (especially the seafood stew), and made use of the lounge in the library, as well as the pool.
Getting out? Carmona itself is a maze of back strees and ancient churches, and we sampled
two great bars, San Fernando and Almazara, for some memorable wine and tapas. Seville is a feel-good
city, famous for its orange trees and elegant architecture. It's also great for some fantastic value
shopping sprees and you'll find everythings from MaxMara and Prada, to Zara and sister brand Massimo Dutti.
